Volunteer!

Volunteering with LSA is a meaningful way to invest in the education and well-being of your children, build community, and contribute to positive changes within the school and community.

Why should I volunteer??

Supporting Education: LSA fundraises and advocates for resources that benefit students directly, such as classroom supplies, extracurricular activities, and educational programs. By volunteering, you contribute to enhancing the educational experience of all students.

Building Community: LSA brings together parents/guardians, teachers, school staff, and community members. Volunteering allows you to connect with others who share a common interest in supporting children's education and well-being, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.

Parental Involvement: Research shows that family involvement positively impacts students' academic success and overall well-being. Volunteering with LSA allows parents/guardians to be actively involved in their children's school life, which can lead to improved communication between parents/guardians and teachers and better support for students.

Skill Development: Volunteering with LSA provides opportunities to develop and strengthen various skills, such as leadership, organization, communication, and teamwork. These skills are valuable not only within the school community but also in other aspects of life and work.

Making a Difference: By volunteering, you have a direct impact on the quality of education and the school environment. Whether it's organizing events, fundraising, or participating in decision-making processes, your efforts contribute to creating a positive and supportive atmosphere for students, teachers, and families.

Event Committees:

Check out all of our committees below! Please complete the Volunteer Contact Form to volunteer and/or chair a committee.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon Committee - Rachelle Chavez, Chairperson

Help plan, setup and execute monthly Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheons. Each event has a theme. As a volunteer, you will help choose the themes, decorations and menus. The day of the event you will help setup, restock and cleanup the event. Volunteers also help through direct donations of food, decorations and drinks for the events. These events mean so much to our teachers and staff! LSA has chosen to host several events over the course of the year in lieu of celebrating the traditional Teacher Appreciation Week.

Scholastic Book Fairs - Lena Walters, Chairperson

We have three book fairs this coming school year! These events are incredibly important to encourage reading opportunities for students. Once a year we are able to donate a book to every student at Longcoy! Volunteers help setup the book fair and pack up the book fair in addition to volunteering at the event to assist students and teachers while they shop.

Grandparents/Special Person Day - Sarah Wesley, Chairperson (Responsible for organizing volunteers, helping organize food donations, ensure event runs smoothly and assist as needed throughout event.)

Grandparents/Special Person Day is a wonderful event where kids can invite their Grandparent(s) or other special adults to visit the book fair and have lunch together. Volunteers help assist with organizing food and refreshment tables, helping classes switch lunch and book fair visits, setup and clean up.

Dine & Donate Fundraising - Melissa Roth, Chairperson

One of our valuable fundraising activities every year is Dine & Donate. Volunteers can help by facilitating relationships with local businesses.

Holiday Shop - Ashley Phillips, Chairperson

Holiday Shop is a fun-filled event where students get to shop for loved ones to celebrate the holidays! Volunteers help with setup and clean up of the event as well as helping students shop and wrap gifts.

Fifth Grade Representatives - Vanessa Johnson & Kristi Miller, CoChairs

Every year the 5th Grade Reps help organize fun and exciting events to celebrate our 5th graders journey to Stanton including events like 5th Grade Bike Ride and Clap Out. Volunteers can help plan events as well as assist at events throughout the year.

Fun Run - Megan Leet, Chairperson

One of the last events of the year the Fun Run gives kids a chance to let loose and have fun while also fundraising for next year’s activities! MANY volunteers are needed for this event to be successful. Volunteers help with setup and clean up of activities, manage water and snack stations and assist Longcoy staff throughout the day with activities. Sign up HERE!

Back to School Dance - Sarah Dana, Chairperson

The Back to School Dance kicks off the school year inviting all Longcoy families to dance, celebrate and have fun! Volunteers help with planning the event, staffing event at the welcome table, snack bar and LSA spirit table as well as setting up and cleaning up after the event.

Family Movie Night - Sarah Wesley, Chairperson

We are excited to host this event once again! Volunteers will assist families, help sell snacks and assist any families wanting to shop the book fair.

Popcorn Fridays - VACANT, Chairperson (Responsible for organizing volunteers and managing events.)

The kids look forward to this event! Popcorn Fridays occur every other month and volunteers help with popping popcorn, bagging popcorn and delivering the popcorn to classrooms.

Right to Read Week & Book Bistro - VACANT, Chairperson (Responsible for organizing volunteer readers, snacks and managing event.)

Book Bistro is an impactful event that invites family members and members of the community to come read to classes during Right to Read Week. Volunteers help with setting up snack, reading to students and cleaning up after Book Bistro is complete.

Homecoming & Community Events - VACANT, Chairperson (Responsible for organizing volunteers and managing events.)

Throughout the year we have many events to help support the community, fundraise for LSA and engage with Longcoy Families. These volunteer opportunities consist of setup and clean up as well as volunteering at our table or booth at events to meet other Longcoy families and share LSA’s mission.

School Events - VACANT, Chairperson

There are various events throughout the year that require additional support beyond school staff. Some examples are Picture Day, Conference Night Babysitting and more!

Fundraising - VACANT, Chairperson

The fundraising committee is responsible for managing all fundraising activities, including pop the piggy, got sneakers and box tops for education as well as additional fundraisers throughout the year. This committee is also responsible for soliciting donations and creating sponsorship relationships throughout the greater community. The work this committee does is integral to the organization, and will ensure LSA’s ability to bring amazing events to our families as well as additional support for our teachers and staff.

Class Representatives

Class Representatives are responsible for planning and executing holiday parties and special events. They organize and support volunteers for class events and field trips. Please note: if they are able to get enough volunteers to support events, Class Representatives do not need to attend all of the events.
